Our quality gravel driveways

The most cost-effective option

Gravel is the most cost-effective way to surface large areas or long drives and it creates a great look too. With so many different types of aggregate to choose from, you're sure to find the right type of stone for you. Gravel is also a very long-lasting solution. With proper care and maintenance, it can last up to 100 years with occasional replenishment. It is also a great additional security measure as vehicles driving over the loose stones can be heard approaching as can pedestrians walking to your door. Ask us for more details.

Cheap to install, good for the environment

There are many advantages to having a gravel driveway, especially if you have a large driveway area or a long drive to your property, for example a house in the country off a main road. It is the cheapest way to surface a large area and covers all types of existing surfaces very well.

If you have a large drive which is excessively potholed for example, although we would always recommend filling in and compacting the potholes before laying gravel, it is an effective way to cover minor surface problems. But filling in potholes means gravel which moves around as vehicles drive over it and which could sink where potholes remain beneath the surface means that levelling and compacting the surface before laying the gravel is always highly recommended.

Today with climate change, environmental considerations are increasingly part of a homeowner's decision making process about which is the greenest option when it comes to surfacing. Gravel is by far and away the greenest option and provided it is laid to the correct depth of around 12 to 18 inches, it also allows surface water to drain away into the soil beneath without flooding. However, it is recommended that drainage channels are added at regular intervals on long drives.

Gravel is easy to install and it requires minimal maintenance. Different aggregate colours mean you can create an attractive driveway that can add to the aesthetics of your home.

Other advantages include security. The noise of vehicles or pedestrians approaching can be clearly heard so this can be a real deterrent to potential burglars, whilst there is also a safety element because vehicles tend to drive more slowly over gravel surfaces.

Avenue Driveways will always install gravel driveways properly and that means ensuring that the surface over which the gravel is laid is properly compacted first.
